What is it with celebrities and what they name their babies?

Decades ago we had Frank Zappa, who named two of his kids Moon Unit and instant car insurance but we sort of expect that from student consolidation loan information rock star, dont we? I had a cat named Coco when I was a child, and now David and Courtney Cox Arquette have a daughter named Coco. And how about Apple for a name? Seriously, why would an Academy Award winning actress name her child Apple? Will Gwenyth name the one shes expecting this spring Banana? Or maybe go with something from the vegetable family?

But what I wonder is if celebrities know there are Baby Naming books out there to help them. Years ago we got one of those books when we considered starting a family. With the last name Ryder, of course we played around with some fun names like Ezekiel Zechariah E.Z. Ryder. Or Paperback. Maybe Horseback. But would we have actually done that? Of course not. Well, at least not Paperback or Horseback. Then, when we didnt have children, we used the book to name our pets. We may be the only people in the world with a Siamese Cat named Dugan and actually know what it means! And we used the book to offer helpful suggestions to family and friends.

These books are great not only do you get thousands of possible names, you also get their heritage and meaning. So if any of you know Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, I have a suggestion for the perfect baby shower gift for them a baby naming book. Or who knows what those two might come up with for a name. To you and me, this may not seem like much to brag about. The longer Lebanons Shia are marginalized in Lebanese politics, the more grateful they are likely to be for Irans support. The longer Syrian aspirations to get back its Golan Heights are denied and the more Syria is pressured, the closer it is likely to move to Iran. Time is on Irans side: what reason is there to anticipate that Iran will surrender?

Moreover, when two sides are face-to-face and looking for a way out, it is up to the more powerfulthe side that can most easily afford to do soto make the first concession. It is not reasonable to expect the weaker party to start from its relatively bad position and then promptly make it worse: to the weak, this looks like the first step on a slippery slope. So the strategy being employed by the U.S. of setting the stage for talks with threats and pressure seem unlikely to lead to real success (initial upbeat reports notwithstanding), which raises the question of why such an approach has been adopted. Do American leaders fail to understand that the world has evolved past the old gunboat diplomacy stage, or is success in the talks simply not Washingtons goal? Whatever the truth, Washingtons approach to these talks makes it likely that they will accomplish much less than might otherwise have been the case.

But to be fair with everyone, let us define what is happiness. The Five largest Free Agent Busts Of The Last Ten Years

He also ran into a Halloween vandal with his car after catching him in the act of throwing eggs at his house.

In 1994, a corked bat got him suspended. He was fined in 1996 for colliding with Fernando Vina on a play at second base. And in 1995, Hannah Storm of NBC Sports was the target of a profane outburst during the 1995 World Series when she approached him for an interview. It was also reported that the Indians billed him $10,000 a year for damages done to opposing team's clubhouses during road games.

At the end of the 1999 season, Belle invoked a clause in his contract that would guarantee that he would remain one of the three highest paid players in baseball, and when the White Sox refused to give him a raise, he immediately became a free agent. The Orioles, desperate to get back into a pennant chase, jumped at the opportunity and signed Belle to a five year contract worth $65 million. But Belle's career would end after only two of the five seasons on the contract when he was diagnosed with degenerative osteoarthritis of the hip. He was only 34 years old.

Brown would make an try at returning in 2005, but would fail miserably being plagued with back dilemmas and other injuries throughout the season. The best year of his career came in 1999 with the Astros when he posted a 22-4 record and a 2.90 ERA as well.

Hampton was also revered as one of the better hitting pitchers in the league and would win five Silver Slugger Awards in a row. In 2001 while with the Rockies he batted .291 and hit 7 home runs. But coupled with his hitting prowess that year was a disappointing 14-13 won/loss record and a dismal 5.12 ERA. Adding insult to injury, he developed control dilemmas. In 2002, things just got worse. His ERA swelled to 6.15 and he posted a miserable 7-15 record.

As a result, in November of '02, Hampton was South Carolina Lemon Laws to the Marlins then immediately to Atlanta. He won 14 games in 2003 and in 2004 he helped get the Braves into the post season. Limited by injuries in 2005, he posted a 5-3 record, only to have his season end with an elbow injury that August. He would undergo Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2006 season while in rehab, and 2007 would prove to be no better. In March, he tore an oblique muscle; in April, a bullpen start was shut down due to recurring elbow pain; and after having another elbow procedure done shortly thereafter, the Braves announced that he would miss the entire 2007 season with a torn flexor tendon in his pitching elbow.

As of the date of that article, there is no news about Hampton or his future. For me, that contract was more ridiculous than A-Rod's $25.2 million per year only because the Yankees got some good out of A-Rod. A creator for Sports Illustrated said it best --- "that deal, signed in the wild winter before the '01 season, was doomed from the start. The lefty Hampton was so bad -- 21-28, 5.75 ERA -- that the Rocks paid Florida (and then the Braves) to take him. The Braves still owe Hampton -- who missed all of '06 and '07 -- $15 million for '08." Now that is a "bust" if ever there was one.

By doing that, you'll prove that your department will be held up to the same standards as the rest of the organization.

Both machine forensics experts and data recovery technicians seek to recover deleted data. Data recovery is primarily interested in bringing back files, while machine forensics tends to dig deeper, looking not just for deleted documents, but Federwrsgxl for metadata (data about data such as file attributes, descriptions, dates, and other information) and meaningful snippets of unrecoverable files. When most documents are written to a machines hard disk, each newly created document has its own directory entry (what the user sees as a listing in a folder). As a result, the deletion of emails and recovering of deleted emails differs not only from that for other types of documents, but also between different types of email plans.

The mailbox files are primarily text files, When an individual email is deleted, the text may be orphaned, or released from the body of the file, but may still be recoverable as a file remnant that may contain the body of the email as well as information such dates, times, and sender.

A standard data recovery process would not recover such deleted email as the mailbox that had contained them may still be intact just not still holding the deleted email. Part of electronic discovery would include searching the unallocated (when a file is written, the operating system allocates a specific area of the hard disk to that file. When the file is deleted, that space is de-allocated, and is referred to as unallocated space) portion of the hard disk for specific terms or phrases that are likely to be within the body of suspect emails. A search may also be performed for email headers that are also text-based. The resulting data may then be gathered and displayed as text files.

A third form of email is Web-accessed email. Many, if not most, commercial email providers offer the user the opportunity to access email via a web browser. As these machines host hundreds or even millions of users and their email, the storage of such email is extremely dynamic. Due to this possibility, it is best to immediately turn off any machine where the recoverability of data is in question. The longer the machine remains in use, the greater the likelihood of useful data being irreparably destroyed. If a users machine is likely to be used or inspected during legal matters, or if document discovery is expected, the machine should be turned off to avoid spoliation of evidence.

If precautions are taken once a file is deleted, the file is likely to be recoverable. The same is true of email. While deleted or trashed email may not be recoverable as a complete mailbox file, the content of said email and its metadata might be discoverable or recoverable through the different methodologies available to machine forensics specialists.

African American Music; The History Of

I do things the African way. I cannot write about African American music like a Western scholar. In my culture we live the past and the future in the present. When I listen to some African American music I can feel the past, the present and the future all at the same time. [Question] Yaya! Who do you think you are?

Yaya Humble Pie - I don't think! I am Farafin, which means I am a dark skin man. The word Africa is the Arabic name for our continent. In Bambara we call the so-called "Africa" Farafina. Farafina means the land of dark skin people. I am from Farafina and I am proud of it. I don't want to be somebody else. People in general say African American. I would say American Farafin, which means dark skin human being who lives in America.

[Question] What is your African background?

Yaya Diallo - I come from far away. I was born in 1946 in Fienso (French Sudan), now Mali. My parents were nomadic. When I was very young I used to travel a lot. I grew up in the bush far from any western civilization. The music that I heard was very traditional and played live. I did not have a radio or TV. I had the opportunity to listen to the music of the different ethnic groups from the Ivory Coast, Burkina and Ghana. In some villages I heard Muslim songs coming from the mosques. By night, I would enjoy the frog symphonic orchestras. From 1946 to 1960 I was living in complete nature. My musical training is a long story but you can learn more from my book The Healing Drum.

[Question] What are your feelings about the civilized world?

Yaya Diallo - In the city I had strange feelings. I saw people listen to music through what I thought was two kinds of boxes. The first was a radio. You could change the singer with the tuning button, I thought. The second needed records. It read 78, 45 and 33 1/2. You had to adjust everything with something but I did not have a clue as to what. Even still, the only music that I heard was the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Johnny Holliday.

[Question] What do you think about the word African American?

Yaya Diallo - Dark skin people living in America are not different from people I met in Africa (Farafina). To me they are just different ethnic groups like the Yoruba, the Bantou, the Zoulou or the Touareg. Africa is not one culture. We have thousands and thousands of languages and different music. My wife is an African American from Louisville, KY. Her mother is from Dark Corner, MS and her father from Jackson, TN. Like my wife and family there was one African American man, James Brown, who saved my life with his music.

[Question] How can an African American man save the life of a traditional African?

Yaya Diallo - In 1967 I left my country to go to Montreal, Canada. On my way, in Paris, I saw a big picture of James Brown in the Olympia Theater. In my mind I thought, "Oh! A black man in Olympia in Paris, France." In Montreal I was looking for a place to dance or listen to the music that I loved. One day I found a radio station that played black music. I heard James Brown and felt at home.

[Question] What do you think about African American music?

Yaya Diallo - I always say that I don't think, I feel. When we talk about African American music we talk about Spirituals, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Gospel, Rap, dance music, etc. I want to talk on each one by one.

When people in Canada were dancing the twist, jerk and go-go, in my country a French man named Johnny Holliday was playing bad versions of Wilson Pickett and Ray Charles music in French. In America I found out this French man was a robber. He stole the music, sang it in French and looked like a genius for us Africans.

[Question] What did you feel when you started to dance?

Yaya Diallo - I used to go out to dance to Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and Sly and the Family Stones music. For me they were Africans. They had good beats, good feelings and most important, African Soul. I did not feel that from Chinese or European music. In the 70s I discovered the Funk music, The O'Jays, Parliament, Ohio Players, Kool and the Gang and JR Walker and the All Stars. I felt I was at home when I knew the Motown Family (Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Temptations and Stevie Wonder). I could survive because I had those kinds of musicians.

[Question] In terms of music, what is the link between African and African Americans?

Yaya Diallo - African Americans are Africans from the village and sadly they just don't know it! When you listen to the music you can find out. Kool and The Gang played Funky Stuff. When you listen to the drum part you will get the Dounouba part of the dance Sounou. Sounou was played in the 15th century and today is the dance young people love. In Africa we learn the past in the present and teach it to the next generation. The African Americans sometimes do not know how African they are.

[Question] Why can you say that they are African?

Yaya Diallo - The first time I heard the three Tops I thought I was listening to the Bambara Farmers in the evening after a hard working day. The Temptations reminded me of the men Fire dancers and singers. I can listen to Temptations but I am afraid to see them. I am not Springheel Jack to the Fire dance and the music brings out memories about the secret ceremonies that happened afar in the village. Aretha Franklin is for me a great Djeli-mousso coming from the Empire of Mali in the 13th century. When I listen to African American music I don't worry about the meaning, only what I feel.

[Question] What do you think about Jazz?

Yaya Diallo - Really, to tell the truth, I don't feel jazz. Many people coming from Africa feel the same way. I learned about jazz in 1980 when I recorded my first album, Nangape, on Onzou Records. That opened the door for me with jazz. Jazz magazines like Cadence and Down Beat wrote articles on me like I was a "jazz man." I was invited to do workshops at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY. I met jazz big names like Art Blakey. He said, "Yaya is the only African that I can jazz, that I can play with and be comfortable." I completed a trio with Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell in the Symphony Space in New York.

[Question] What about Gospel?

Yaya Diallo - To me gospel means religion or church but my father-in-law changed my mind. When going to church with Gunrnawcx I saw a big band and a big choir. People were singing and I forgot that I was in church. I was surprised; I saw ladies in a trance like in my village but they called it shouting. This reminded me of the Mania Secret Society where only woman go into a trance when praising god (See The Healing Drum).

[Question] What is rap?

Yaya Diallo - I love rap! I use to lie about buying rap and say that it was for my children. Rap is the old tradition of the Fulani people in Mali. It tells life stories through poetry that is recited quickly. Nomadic people have to explain their daily journey through this same quick form, but without the foul language. Today, the young people think that they have reinvented the wheel.

[Question] Yaya, what is wrong with African American music today?

Yaya Diallo - Today everything is easy. Instead of buying a drum set you buy a drum machine. machines do everything. You can get almost every sound by pressing a button. This is the type of world that we live in today. The young Africans love it like we used to love James Brown. Time is the only thing that has changed!

[Question] How did African American music change American Society?

machine Performance - More Than Just Clock Speed

If I were to ask you which processor had better performance: a 2.4GHz Intel Celeron processor or a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, most of you have heard enough about Wonder Woman popular dual-core wonders from Intel to know that this was a trick question. Furthermore, many of you would even know the reasons behind why the dual core architecture is a better performer and Swamp Thing able to explain that the Core 2 Duo is able to work on multiple tasks at a time. However, if that is the limit of your microprocessor knowledge, than this article is for you. There are three main hardware concepts to take into account Viagra questions assessing the performance of a machine Processing Unit (CPU). They are:

Before getting into these topics however, it is important to understand the basics of how a CPU works. Most machines have 32-bit processors, and "32-bit" is probably a term you've heard thrown around alot. This basically means that the machine only understands instructions which are 32 bits long. In a typical instruction, the first six bits tell the CPU what type of task to perform and how to handle the remaining 26 bits of the instruction. For example, if the instruction was to perform addition on two numbers and store the result in a memory location, the instruction might look like this:

In this illustration, the first 6 bits form a code which tells the processor to perform addition, the following 9 bits specify the memory location of the first operand, the next 9 bits specify the memory location of the second operand, and the last 8 bits specify the memory location of where the result will Family Ties stored. The important thing to remember is that these instructions are how work gets done by the machine and they are stored together on the hard-drive as a program. When a program is run, the data (including the instructions) gets copied from the hard-drive to the RAM, and similarly, a section of this data is copied into the cache memory for the processor to work on. This way, all data is backed up by a larger (and slower) storage medium.

Everyone knows that upgrading your RAM will improve your machine's performance. This is because a larger RAM will require your processor to make fewer trips out to the slow hard drive to get the data it needs. The same principle applies to Cache Memory. If the processor has the data it needs in the extremely fast cache, then it won't need to spend extra time accessing the relatively slow RAM. Every instruction being processed by the CPU has the addresses of the memory locations of the data that it needs. If the cache doesn't have a match for the address, the RAM will be signaled to copy that data into the cache, as well as a group of other data that is likely to be used in the following instructions. By doing this, the probability of having the data for the next instructions ready in the cache increases. The relationship of the RAM to the hard drive works in the same way. So now you can understand why a larger cache means better performance.

The clock speed of a PC is what gives the machine a sense of time. The standard unit of time for machines is one cycle, which can be anywhere from a few microseconds in length to a few nanoseconds. Tasks that the instructions tell the machine to do are broken up and scheduled into these cycles so that components in the machine hardware are never trying to process different things at the same time. An illustration of what a clock signal looks like is shown below.

For an instruction to be executed, many different components of hardware must perform specific actions. For instance, one section of hardware will be responsible for fetching the instruction from memory, another section will decode the instruction to find out where the needed data is in memory, another section will perform a calculation on this data, and another section will be responsible for storing the result to memory. Rather than having all of these stages occur in one clock cycle (therefore having one instruction per cycle), it is more efficient to have each of these hardware stages scheduled in separate cycles. By doing this, we can cascade the instructions to take full advantage of the hardware available to us. If we didn't do this, then the hardware responsible for fetching instructions would have to wait and do nothing while the rest of the processes completed. The figure below illustrates this cascading effect:

This idea of breaking up the hardware into sections that can work independently of each other is known as "pipelining". By breaking up the tasks into further subsets of each other, additional pipeline stages can be created, and this generally increases performance. Also, less work being done in each stage means that the cycle won't have to be as long, which in turn increases clock speed. So you see, knowing the clock speed alone is not enough, it is also important to know how much is being performed per cycle.

Lastly, parallelism is the idea of having two processors working synchronously to theoretically double the performance of the machine (a.k.a. multiple core). This is great because two or more programs running at the same time will not have to alternate their use of the processor. Additionally, a single program can split up its instructions and have some go to one core while others go to the other core, thus decreasing execution time. However, there are drawbacks and limitations to parallelism that prevent us from having 100+ core super-machines. First, many instructions in a single program require data from the results of previous instructions. If instructions are being processed in different cores however, one core will have to wait for the other to finish and delay penalties will be incurred. Also, there is a limit to how many programs can be used by one user at a time. A 64 core processor would be a inefficient for a PC since most of the cores would be idle at any given moment.

So when shopping for a personal machine, the number of pipelines probably won't be stamped on the case, and even the size of the cache might take some online research to discover, so how do we know which processors perform the best?

The short answer: Benchmarking. Find a website that benchmarks processors for the type of application that you will be using your machine for, and see how the various competitors perform. Match the performance back to these three main factors, and you will see that clock speed alone is not the King Solomon's mines factor in performance.

The Walk On method of installing hardwood flooring requires precise panel laying. This process of installing hardwood flooring waits until the glue is very tacky and then lays the panel in the glue. This keeps you from getting glue smudges all over your panels as you go. Experienced hardwood installers typically use the Walk On method because of the better finished results it can provide. Since you are reading instructions about how to install hardwood floors, we'll assume you're using the Wet Lay method.

Instructions for Installing Hardwood Flooring

1. Place your substrate sheets, stretched across the foundation. Make sure that the surface is level, clean, and free of debris.

2. Get your glue warm. It should be slightly above room temperature or it will be very difficult to work with. If it's below room temperature, you'll find it impossible to work with your glue.

3. Use your square notched trowel to put glue in the starting corner of the room. Put enough to securely fasten the board, but ration your glue so that it'll be able to complete the entire hardwood flooring process. If you had any doubt about if you have enough glue, it would have been a good idea to buy more before you started gluing. You'll typically find that it takes an extra day to do the flooring when you run out of glue before you've finished.

4. Try to place your first wood panel straight down on the glue, secured into the corner. Since you are working with wet glue, place the panel as best you can at first so that you'll not be smearing the glue around as you adjust the panel's placement. If you had used the Walk On method, you wouldn't be able to move the panel at all only a few seconds after placement.

5. You can continue on as in the above steps with adding more panels until you reach the last panel, which shouldn't completely fit. Use your crayon to mark where to cut the board and your saw to make the cut.

6. Get your first row wedged in really tight so that it will provide a solid basis for your entire floor.

7. Before any of the glue dries, use a soft cloth to clean up any glue that may be sitting on the surface of your first row. The longer you wait to clean up the glue, the more difficult it will get to clean up the glue.

8. Hopefully you didn't mutilate the excess piece of panel you cut off to end the first row. That's going to be the panel you use to start the next row. This helps make sure your hardwood floor looks nice by having all of the panels offset.

9. If you're seeing any bubbles, hills, or slopes on the panels you've been laying, put a heavy, flat object on top of these sections to hold them down until the glue attaches them to the substrate.

10. Clean up again. Get all of that sawdust and glue out of there. A soft cloth with mineral spirits on it can be used to get glue you've missed that may be hardening. Clean the mineral spirits off quickly to avoid having them damage the floor. You should have a nice, new hardwood floor.

Objections can be rational or irrational. In face-to-face selling, most objections come from the buyer - but an inexperienced salesperson could provoke some objections himself if he or she is not vigilant.

Dealing with Objections:

Either:

- Pre-empt the objection - kill it off before the buyer thinks of it, or

- Answer it immediately

If you tell the buyer you will deal with the objection later, then forget about it, or worse,ignore it, you will risk the buyer thinking you are either hedging or ignorant of the answers. In either case the sale could be threatened then or later.

Unprofessional or inexperienced salespeople do not know how to recognise an objection and deal with it, and disregard what the buyer has said. It is very easy for a seller to confuse an Excuse with a genuine Objection. An excuse is where a buyer is deliberately trying to avoid making a decision. An objection is a concrete opportunity for you to find a way of dealing with whatever is troubling the buyer, and close the sale.

When the buyer starts to make excuses you start to manipulate them subtly, letting him or her know that you have gauged their game and are aware that they are prevaricating. Be careful, though - you risk making the buyer angry if you use intimidating behaviour and you might reach the stage where you have to withdraw from the meeting. You then allow a cooling-off period, and may then contact the buyer again, apologizing for your supposed 'mistake'. This should pave the way for a fresh selling start.

The first installment in ALF two-part series of Tech Tips provided an introduction to the basic capabilities and hardware involved in wireless networking. In the final installment of this two-part series, we will look at some of the basic setup and security considerations that should be addressed. The physical installation of a wireless network may be easier than a wired network, but the more difficult part is setting up the software and security to make sure everything stays up and running without incident.

Although this Tech Tip is by no means an exhaustive resource on configuring a wireless network, it will provide information and pointers that can be applied to most typical installations. Many of these tips are general enough that they may provide some good advice for those utilizing wired networks as well.

For the sake of this article, we will assume that the hardware has been successfully installed physically, and that the user is now prepared to set up and secure the system through software. Wireless devices, especially routers / access points, generally include a web-based configuration utility that allows the user to customize the hardware to meet their needs. The hardware will most likely work with minimal configuration, but to make it work so that the integrity of the network is protected may take a few more steps.

In addition to the configuration interface provided with the wireless networking hardware, Microsoft has integrated a Wireless Network Setup Wizard with the release of Windows XP Service Pack 2 that will lead a user of any expertise through the installation of their network. In addition, the Microsoft Broadband Network Utility will help them monitor and maintain the network just as easily once it is set up.

Change Default Password

Routers, whether wired or wireless, require a password for configuring the various settings, and all of them ship with extremely simple default passwords. The first step taken in setting up the router should be to change the default password to something more difficult to guess. Longer passwords that use a combination of letters and numbers are preferable as they make hacking attempts that much more difficult.

Change Router IP Address

Most routers ship with a default IP (Internet Protocol) address, something like 192.168.1.1, which is utilized by the user for accessing the configuration utility interface, as well as by the network itself for negotiating the LAN and WAN connections. The configuration utility of most routers will include a page that will allow for the default IP address to be manually changed by the user. Although changing the default IP address doesnt provide a great amount of security since it can easily be discovered anyway, it may deter intrusion by local users that may be casually scanning the network.

Configure Router or Access Point Use

In the first part of this series of Tech Tips, I mentioned that almost all routers intended for home use can also double as wireless access points, and this is generally accomplished by clicking a check box within the control panel software. If a wireless router is being added to a network with an existing router and broadband connection, the new device needs to be set to access point mode. Otherwise, there could be a conflict as the network may not know where to expect the internet connection, since it will now have two routers that both want to serve as the gateway. If the wireless router is replacing an existing router, or is the only one on the network, this should not be an issue as these devices generally ship configured to operate as a router by default.

Broadcasting the SSID

The SSID, or Service Set Identifier, is basically the name assigned to a particular wireless network. The user can choose just about any name they want, as long as it is less than 32 characters long, and they just need to be sure that all The Great Silence on the network are configured to use the same name. Two steps related to the SSID can be taken to help improve the security of the network:

First, change the default SSID to a unique name that includes a combination of letters and numbers that doesnt reveal anything personal about you or your network. I have used a few wireless routers, and all of them have a check box in the control panel for enabling/disabling the broadcast of the SSID, and they have all recommended leaving broadcasting enabled. Broadcasting the SSID allows new machines to easily find your network, and then all they have to do is access it given the proper credentials. Broadcasting your SSID puts it out there for anyone within range to see, and it just allows would-be hackers to get one step closer to compromising your security. In a home environment, there are probably few machines that need to access the network, and if more are ever added, you can temporarily enable the broadcast to get them set up.

DHCP Server

The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Server is a feature of most routers that makes adding new machines extremely simple. Whenever a new machine connects to the network, the router will assign an IP address to it, instead of the user having to assign an IP address to each manually while sitting at that particular machine. This makes configuring a network very easy, but it also leaves the network vulnerable, as any new machine detected will be welcomed to the neighborhood and assigned an IP address automatically. Two different approaches can be taken to improve security, as related to the DHCP server:

One method, and the best as far as security is concerned, is to disable the DHCP server. This will require that all machines that are authorized to connect to the network be configured manually, but it will prevent unauthorized machines from obtaining an IP address. The second method, which doesnt provide bulletproof security, is better than doing nothing. In general, a DHCP server can support up to 250 machines, and by default leaves a range of Here We Come A-Wassailing readily available for that many to connect. If disabling the DHCP server doesnt seem convenient for a user, they can limit the DHCP server to only provide as many IP addresses as they know they need. If you know there will never be more than five machines connected, limit the range of available IP addresses to a total of five within the configuration utility.

Different Levels of Encryption

All wireless components support some sort of encryption, which simply scrambles the information being sent across the network so that it can not easily be read by anyone else connected to the network. There are different types and levels of encryption, and a brief overview is provided for them below:

WEP, or Wireless Equivalency Protocol, was the first format of encryption available on wireless networks. WEP allows the network administrator to assign an encryption string to be shared by all machines authorized to access the wireless network. The encryption through WEP is either 64bit, 128bit, or 256bit, where the higher number represents greater encryption, and the strings can be generated by the administrator as a series of letters and numbers.

WPA, or Wi-Fi Protected Access, is an improvement over WEP that starts off with a similar master encryption string and then mathematically derives encryption keys to keep the security dynamic. WPA continually changes the encryption keys used for each packet of data, and due to the extra processing required to support this protocol the overall throughput of the connection may suffer slightly. Despite the potential for decreased speed, WPA is considered to be far more robust than WEP, and should be implemented where possible. In some instances, WEP encryption has actually been defeated, making WPA all that more appealing.

Although most components support both of these encryption formats, and users can select the type they wish to use from within the control software, not all do. All devices on the network must be set to operate at the same level of encryption, which may mean that some devices will force others to be less secure than they are capable of. Note that the second adaptor does not support WPA; therefore the whole network must now be configured to use WEP to accommodate it.

Router Position

As discussed in the first part of this Tech Tip, wireless devices can have a range of up to a few hundred feet in free space. When installed inside a home, this range may decrease greatly due to walls, floors and other obstructions, but the signal may still be strong enough to carry beyond the confines of the dwelling. A simple step that may help reduce the strength and reach of the network signal outside the house is to position the router / access point as close to the center of the house as possible. The potential for someone to detect the network from outside the home when positioned like this is now much less than if the router was placed near a window, for example.

Final Words

There are definitely additional issues that could be considered when setting up a wireless network, but covering these basics will make a wireless network much more secure than it was straight out of the box. Many people are confident that no one would be interested in their home network and feel security is just one more headache of technical mumbo-jumbo that they would rather not deal with. Whether a hacker wants access to personal files on the network or to simply gain unauthorized access to the Internet, a few simple steps are worth the peace of mind to know you are as secure as possible.

I get asked all the time, Lorrie, how can I make my copy more persuasive? Well frankly it helps if you can speak your prospects language. But writing persuasively is more involved than just saying the right words. You need to say them in the right orderand in Jonah Hex way that lowers resistance to new information and is acceptable to his Silver Surfer her mind. One discipline that translates nicely to writing persuasive copy is NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming.

NLP isnt a replacement for good copywriting. Its a turbo boost. Meeting a person on his or her own level by using familiar words puts YOU in control of the communication almost immediately.

Have you ever been moved to buy a pair of sexy shoes instead of the sensible, comfy shoes you really needed? But when you got home you didnt know how you got over the resistance of spending the money? See, people understand the RESULT of making a purchasing decision, but are often unaware of the internal recipe that gets them there. We all know we tend to buy based on emotion over logic. In fact, most buying decisions are largely emotional.

WHOS RIGHT ANYWAY?

We can all agree there are two sides to the brain, correct? The left (logical) and the right (emotional). Interesting fact: information is first perceived by the emotional right brain. Then within a fraction of a second, it shoots over to the logical left. Then finally, once again, is reflected to the emotional right. In other words, every message we get is influenced by the emotional right brain. Pretty fascinating, huh?

Here is the basic principle of NLP as I understand it. There is no mental resistance to an idea you perceive as your own. And whenever any of us engages our imagination, we think we came up with the idea ourselves. So it must be great!!! It aligns with our own beliefs so its unconsciously Voodoo as being the truth and you act as if its true. So NLP always prefers to presuppose that changes can be made quickly and automatically. So lets cover some NLP principles and how to use it in the art of persuasive writing.

PACING

Pacing is putting yourself in the prospects shoes through languaging. Look at David Ogilvy (one of the greatest advertising masters who ever lived) as an example. His first headline for Rolls Royce didnt come from HIS mind, but that of an engineer at the factory. Ogilvy was told, You know David, the loudest noise from this Rolls Royce comes from the clock on the dashboard at 60 miles an hour. And David thought this man, this engineer must know something because hes constantly in the flow about changes and revisions and everything happening at the Rolls Royce factory. So David did his research and made a connection. Im not suggesting the engineer was deliberately using NLP on David, but its an illustration of how we as humans connect the dots and are able to write persuasively as a result.

Though similar to empathy, pacing is a bit more complex. In pacing, you actually encourage the prospect to use visualization or other accessing cues in a very subtle and vague way. These are the same communication skills of matching, mirroring and rapport that allow you to pace and lead someone to the sale.

NLP Master Ross Jeffries says, People will not accept that you are an authority on where they should go unless they accept youre an authority on where they are at.

In other words, if youre reading a letter or listening to a podcast, it makes sense for me as a writer to mirror that experience for you. Then you subtly relax:

As youre sitting there reading this letter
As you are sitting in front of your computer
While you are listening to this broadcast

Any of those phrases have you and the prospect share an experience, which moves him or her toward the sale. Have you ever met someone and felt an instant kinship with that person? Or on the other hand, met someone who you just could never quite get on the same wave length?

What if you knew how to get on that persons wave-length? You would have a totally different outcome the outcome you wanted! Thats the importance of defining your target audience (or my own term, TAR-KET). You can communicate with that one person because you have already defined him or her.

PRESUPPOSITION OF AWARENESS

This technique also ties to speaking directly to your own target market. (If people dont have their target market nailed down, it doesnt matter how good their copy is. It doesnt matter if youre trying to sell beef to a vegetarian. Its just not going to work. So you really have to zone in on your target market.)

The way you do that is to understand your product. Figure out where they shop, where they eat, what they look like. Are they a family or are they single? Do they have dogs or not? Do they live in a rural area or the city? These keys make a huge difference when you are trying to figure out who your target market is. When I write my copy, I write to one person. I visualize everything about them so its very real to me when I start to write. I would suggest that you funnel down your target market to your TARKET as much as possible. Thats how youre able to give them the illusion. Youve given them information and the mind fills in the blanks. The more specific the better is what Im saying.

In this technique you direct the conscious mind of the reader by assuming something is true. So you speak to him or her as if something has already happened. Here are some examples:

As you become aware of

Im not sure just how excited you can get about this offer but

The proper use of language patterns in written words means you communicate by tonal shifts, tempo shifts etc, following the patterns of a question, a statement, or a command. We invite people to share our certainty about our product or service by using an intonation of a command or a statement like Do you agree?

PRESUPPOSITION OF TIME

This concept piggybacks onto the previous one. You build on the prospects experience of awareness by adding in the element of time. Examples:

Before you order today
After you make your decision to order
While you are filling out your order form

Use language patterns to move yourself and others in a direction that results in a win-win situation. The truth is that we are selling ourselves every day, all day long. Doesnt it make a lot of sense to use communication skills like NLP to lead someone where you want them to go? And the more that happens, the more successful you will be with your copy.

Better yet, don't pretend to having any, for, being merely an amateur, you are not entitled to them, and so you have none. Be quiet and absorb in awe the art and wisdom of your paid-to-do-it betters.

Given that a more than adequate answer to Mr. Keens argument was provided as far back as 1644 by John Milton in his immortal Areopagitica, a speech in defense of unlicensed publishing (that is, of something we call internet today, though back than it was based on printed books and pamphlets rather than on computer networks), it Chocolate be a waste of time to go into a point-by-point debate, all the more that thus far, the bloggers, the YouTubers, the Wikipedians and the rest of the amateurs so detested by Mr. Keen are being protected by the US constitution.

Nor can Mr. Keen, undoubtedly to his despair, save mankind from the disgraceful fact that modern chemistry was founded not by a professional, but by an amateur aristocrat called Robert Boyle; or to prevent a mere rapacious businessman and lawyer, one Lavoisier, from contributing to this science in a most fundamental way by discovering the law of conservation of matter.

Nor could he, to his profound regret, stop a mere lawyer, Mr. Pierre Fermat, from making a huge contribution to the theory of numbers; or a mere brewer and local politician in the city of Danzig, Mr. Hevelius, from becoming one of the most important astronomers of the seventeenth century.

And it would be interesting to hear Mr. Keen explain a strange fact that for all the abundance of professionals, we do not understand such genuinely urgent matter as the reason for terrorism as was openly acknowledged by the former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld. For all the professionals in academia, press, and think-tanks, our government does not know enough about terrorism to come in out of the rain. One wonders whether they would benefit from some Einstein-class amateur help but even if it is available, their professionalism-directed noses are stuck too high into the air to notice, to our great detriment and loss.

As a person who wants to internet-ize, so to speak, the print media itself, leveling the playing field in book publishing and allowing Americans to speak for themselves rather than being hostages to publishers when they want to exercise their free speech right (and who, to get the ball rolling, Stretch Armstrong a federal lawsuit), I cannot but laugh at Mr. Keens professional argument. Yet, when I heard him talk on the radio, the sense of Out of Body Experience amateurism so overwhelmed me that it prevented me from buying Mr. Keens book for am I, a mere amateur, worthy of reading it and stepping into the realm of professionalism? Will I comprehend its professionally-advanced argument? Appreciate the loftiness of its professionally-reasoned thought? See the majesty of its professionally-constructed language?

Comprehension of Mr. Keens professional book is obviously unattainable by the mind of a mere amateur. Let the professionals read it.
